At the University of Lynchburg, the wrestling room was built to do more than look impressive (though we must say, it looks GOOD).

It was designed to support athletes through daily training, long seasons, and the most important matches of their careers. 

Meet Coach Vinny

Vinny Barber at Lynchburg and works closely with the wrestling community every day, both on the mat and through his role with Dollamur's sales team. Recently, he outfitted Lynchburg’s wrestling facility with mats built for high-level performance and longevity.

Below, Vinny walks us through why he chose Dollamur mats, how the space came together, and why he trains his athletes on them every day.

What were the key things you were looking for when choosing mats for your trianing room?

When deciding on the mats for our facility, I knew that having the highest quality and safest mats was paramount for our athletes. We needed a mat that was durable enough for multiple uses everyday, but also safe and comfortable for our athletes.

We decided on the 2” Dollamur mats and are extremely happy with our choice. Our coaches and athletes love working out on them.

Designing the space to match the standard

What made you decide on this specific layout and setup?

We have four full mats in our facility, which is not common for a lot of college programs. We wanted to make sure that we didn’t have to worry about taping such a large mat space, so FLEXI-Connect was an awesome feature to have.

Keeping these mats looking sharp and not having to worry about changing tape, open seams and those issues saves a lot of time, headache and money.

A space built for the whole athlete

Anything unique about your training environment or coaching style that influenced how you built the room?

At the University of Lynchburg, we have one of the largest stand alone wrestling facilities in the country. We have four full mats, a weight room, cardio space, athletic training room, locker room and showers, team lounge and a recruiting suite.

Dollamur mats really complete our space and make it look amazing while having great functionality. We have Dollamur wrestling mats both on the floor and walls along with Dollamur turf in our space.

Our wrestling space is 7200 square feet of mats that is wide open allowing us to see all of our athletes at once and be able to coach them all in one big group, but also have a large enough space to multiple run smaller groups or individual sessions at the same time.
