'Ohana at Roma Jiu Jitsu
At Roma Jiu Jitsu, they pride themselves in providing a modern high-level instruction in a positive and welcoming environment. They stood out to the Dollamur team for this very reason, and for their beautiful and bright Hawaii studio, of course featuring their Dollamur flooring! Owner, Kawika Yoneda, gave us a deep look into the workings of this beautiful martial arts school in Big Island, Hilo, Hawaiʻi.
About Roma Jiu Jitsu Academy
My name is Kawika Yoneda. My wife, Jamie, and I opened Roma Jiu Jitsu Academy in April 2016 as the first Atos Affiliate in the State of Hawaii. At Roma Jiu Jitsu, we offer modern high-level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes to keiki (kids) and adults of all levels. Our youngest students start training at just age 3!
The Roma ‘Ohana
‘Ohana (family) is very important to us here at Roma Jiu Jitsu, and we love the way this sport brings people together. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our amazing coaches and students who have grown with us along the way - Especially Coach Todd and Coach Cami, who have been there since the beginning! Our motto is “wave after wave”. The meaning behind this is that through perseverance and consistency, you can accomplish great things. Just like waves turn rocks into sand, not because of their power, but because of their persistence.

Rolling on with Roma Jiu Jitsu
We love our town of Hilo, Hawai’i, and one of our dreams in opening Roma JJA was to bring new opportunities and connections to athletes here on the Big Island. Our goals for the future include competing internationally, expanding our space (which will include new Dollamur mats!) and continuing to share the passion that we have for jiu jitsu with our community.
