Non-toxic materials, because everything ends up in a mouth
Toddlers do not respect a surface. They chew on it, drool on it, lie face-down on it and press their cheeks into it for an hour. Whatever the floor is made of, some of it is going in their mouth.
Dollamur's vinyl mat surfaces are made BPA-free, lead-free and phthalate-free. That matters more than it sounds, because "foam mat" covers an enormous range of quality — a lot of low-cost import tiles have been pulled from shelves over exactly these chemistries. Underneath the vinyl is a closed-cell, cross-linked athletic foam core. Closed-cell means the foam does not drink. Spilled milk, a leaking sippy cup and a potty-training accident stay on top of the mat instead of soaking into it and living there.
A surface built to be cleaned, not just wiped
The vinyl surface is non-porous. There is no nap, no weave and no open cell structure for anything to sink into, so a marker line, a juice spill or a smear of yogurt sits on the surface where you can get to it. Warm water and a mild cleaner, one pass with a damp mop, done.
Dollamur also infuses a biocidal additive registered with the EPA into the vinyl during production. The important word there is during. It is built into the material itself rather than sprayed on as a coating, so it does not wear off the traffic lanes after a season of hard use. It works to inhibit the growth of microorganisms on the mat surface between cleanings — which is exactly the problem with a playroom floor that gets used every day and deep-cleaned every few weeks.

Cushioning that is measured, not marketed
Kids fall. They fall off the arm of the couch, they fall backward doing a somersault, and they fall the way only a two-year-old can — with no attempt whatsoever to catch themselves.
Most play mats describe their cushioning in adjectives. Ours is tested against published standards: the shock-absorbing foam in Dollamur mats meets ASTM F1081 and F355 requirements. In practical terms: the foam absorbs the energy of a fall instead of transmitting it back up. And unlike a soft pillow-top, it is firm enough to stay stable underfoot, so a toddler learning to walk is not fighting the floor.
