Building Champions at Championship MA
At Dollamur, we always love a gym that changes things up and goes against the norm. At Championship Martial Arts, they’re using Dollamur carpet-bonded foam mats, rather than the traditional vinyl mats that are normally used for martial arts dojos. We wanted to see how they were loving the mats and if they were seeing great feedback from their athletes and this is what we learned about Championship MA -
Championship Martial Arts opened in 2005 when the owner Caleb Collier was 17. He started teaching classes in his parents’ basement and in 2009 expanded to a commercial space in Kaysville, UT where they currently reside, teaching a mix of tae-kwon-do and Karate.
A bit about their team
“Our team at CMA is what makes our school what it is today. They are phenomenal! They work well together and work hard to keep up with the best business practices and teaching methods out there. We also need to give a shout out to the team at MAIA, who has helped strengthen our leadership at CMA Utah.”
Their Dollamur experience
“We purchased the Carpet bonded foam mats. These are the owners favorite because they are easy to clean with a vacuum, and softer for falls. We also purchased a vinyl printed mat for our walls that has our logo on it as well as “Building Champions in life.” Not only is this eye catching, but it is great for wall defense practice!
We met Mr. Mike Swain a few years ago at a MAIA convention in Orlando. When we met him again at the MASuper Show in Vegas, he helped us one-on-one get the right mats for our space and even advised us on how to hang the wall mat and let us buy the Velcro that he had on hand and bring it home with us. We have since purchased mats for our second school which are currently being shipped to us. We cannot wait to get them laid out and hung on the wall. It is what makes our school stand out. We won’t go with anyone else for mats from here on out. We are incredibly pleased with our experience with Dollamur!”
COVID-19 vs. Championship MA
“When COVID-19 hit, we closed the school for live classes for 6 weeks. While we were closed, we opened Zoom classes and worked harder than ever to communicate with our students and recruit new students. This was incredibly challenging but helped us grow as a staff and learn how to improve our business. These are things that we will continue to focus on from here on out because of the success we have seen.
Currently, we are fully open and no longer teaching on Zoom, but we now have the training to go back to it if we get shut down again. 2020 was surprisingly a record year for us and we cannot thank our community and staff enough for supporting our small business and helping us to expand to other cities.”
We wanted to end on a high note and asked about the goals of Championship MA in the coming years and were not disappointed to learn, “We are opening our second school in February 2021 and hope to continue to expand further. We hope to continue to provide employment for our staff and future staff and to improve the community by teaching life skills through Martial Arts!”
